CELEBRATING 17 YEARS IN BUSINESS!

Does lox toxin hair colour really cover greys?

Hello,

We often get asked if the colours we use cover grey hair? We are thrilled to answer, YES they do!

Blown Away Hair Spa transitioned to a Low Toxin salon in 2015 after creator Kalli Fardoulis experienced first hand the positive affects that reducing endocrine disrupting chemicals can have on a woman’s hormones. Hair dye is one of those endocrine disrupting hormones that seems to get overlooked. According to Anthony William, author of the Liver Rescue, hair dye applied directly on the scalp travels to all layers of the liver. On top of that, we now know that excess endocrine disrupting chemicals or toxins can make the symptoms of menopause and the menstrual cycle worse. We put so much emphasis on what we eat, what we put on our skin is just as important to reducing the toxin load.

Natulique, the colour range we use and recommend is ammonia free which means it has no smells, it’s gentle on the scalp and the results are vibrant. The ammonia is replaced with 1% MEA which is derived from coconut. This ingredient makes grey coverage simple to achieve. This is why we are low toxin, we still need certain ingredients to open the hair cuticle/shaft to achieve long lasting, vibrant coverage.

Let’s talk grey coverage.

There can be two types of grey coverage. Let me explain;

  1. BLANKET COVERAGE – This kind of coverage is the type that gives you a real definite re growth line! Especially if you colour white or light hair, darker.
  2. NATURAL COVERAGE – This kind of coverage still gives you 100% grey coverage although it is a little translucent. This slight translucent coverage effect is our most preferred in the salon as it makes the regrowth a little less obvious yet still covers hair beautifully.

Low Tox colour is not only great for covering grey hair. It is made using over 90% natural and organic ingredients which will keep the colour looking vibrant for longer and the hair nourished.

It’s really important to remember that home maintenance is important to healthy hair. The better condition your hair is in the better the colour will cover and the better it will last. For coloured hair we recommend using a shampoo with protein and moisture to replace the hair with what we take out during the colouring process. It’s also important to remember that we do NOT need to shampoo our hair daily. If your hair is excessively oily its best to find out what’s causing the excess sebum. It could be related to hormones, the wrong shampoo, not rinsing the conditioner out properly or even touching your hair frequently. Over shampooing may make your roots feel cleaner but ask yourself, is it drying out your ends?

The shampoo range we use and recommend is called Everescents, 100% Australian made, cruelty free & with certified organic ingredients. With no SLS we are still able to have a beautiful lather created once the hair is clean.

Receive 20% of all Everescents range until March 31st 2022. Simply use the code “lowtox” to receive this offer. Shop here – https://lowtoxshop.com.au/

Making the switch to low tox living is a lifestyle change. It takes time as well as a letting go of what you have been used to that no longer serves the path you are now on. As Alexx Stuart, author of Low Tox Life states, we aim for progress over perfection. Each small swap you make now, will result in large outcomes in the future.

Here is to low tox hair!

Much love,

Kalli – Creator of Blown Away Hair Spa, Southern Sydney’s Low Toxin Salon.
